Amphora Gamay Noir 2023

For those looking for a lighter style of red wine, this Gamay Noir is soft on the palate, with fresh strawberries, redcurrants, bramble and small fine tannins. The wine is super fresh and delicate from its time spent in contact with the clay amphora.

This Gamay Noir is from the exceptional Two Terraces vineyard in the Mangatahi Terraces, Hawke’s Bay. Ian and Linda Quinn are conscientious and detail oriented growers with the quality of their grapes being exceptional. I drew inspiration from my time working in Beaujolais, vinifiying with carbonic maceration (whole grape bunches, no juice) whilst the remaining fruit was de-stemmed and untouched during fermentation. The wine was pressed off into a Tinaja (amphora) for ageing.

No additions at any stage. The wine is unfiltered and unfined.
