The Gris is back from the original vineyard and rows where I made my very first wine. This is from the certified organic Osawa vineyard in the Mangatahi Terraces. This is a skin contact Pinot Gris macerated for 3.5 weeks in before pressing to Tinajas (amphorae). The time on skins imparts the amber orange colour. The wine is medium bodied, with pear, rock melon and subtle ginger spice notes. Made to be approachable to all and a pleasure to pair with so many different food types, from fish to charcuterie as well as spicy Asian inspired dishes.
Besides being magical and fragile vessels all the same, I love the purity of fruit and intact expression that one can achieve by fermenting & ageing the wine in amphorae. No additions at any stage, including sulphur. The wine is unfiltered and unfined.
