Guyot poussard, aka ‘soft pruning’

Guyot poussard, aka ‘soft pruning’ in the old vine block we’ve been working for last three years. An old established method of respecting the sap flow, avoiding deep unnecessary cuts. I’m happy to see this time honoured technique gaining traction in NZ.

Each year the energy of the vine is pushed to the best area (the fruiting zone!) creating even & balanced growth, no crowding in the heads, less disease pressure and longevity.

Can’t wait to shoot thin these vines!
